July Most Anticipated New Releases

New month = new books to be added to your TBR. That means it’s time for me to recap which books are going on the shelves this month.

Release Date: July 5 2016

This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab | GOODREADS PAGE

book cover

Stand-alone or series: the first book in Monsters of Verity series

Category | Genre: Young Adult | Urban Fantasy, Dystopian

This Savage Song had actually released in UK and some parts of the world, including where I live, in June. However, the US release will fall on July 5, 2016. I’ve already reviewed this book and pointed out things I liked and some things that didn’t work for me. Nevertheless, I think Schwab is once again off to a good start.

Learning to Swear in America by Katie Kennedy | GOODREADS PAGE

book cover

Stand-alone or series: stand-alone

Category | Genre: Young Adult | Contemporary, Science Fiction, Romance

A genius awkward teen trying to save the world from being destroyed by asteroid while still trying to figure out how to fit in. Sign me up!
I also want to give props to Reg @ She Latitude because I found out about this book from her. If it’s good, she’ll be the first one to know. If I don’t like it, well… 😛

Release Date: July 19 2016

A World Without You by Beth Revis | GOODREADS PAGE

book cover

Stand-alone or series: stand-alone

Category | Genre: Young Adult | Contemporary, Mental Health

This book offers an interesting premise of a 17-year old who claimed to have witness Titanic hitting the iceberg. When shipped to a new school, he connected with a girl with tragic past named Sofia.

Release Date: July 31 2016

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by JK Rowling, Jack Thorne, John Tiffany | GOODREADS PAGE

book cover

Stand-alone or series: stand-alone(-ish)

Category | Genre: Young Adult | Fantasy, Play

For those of us who cannot get enough of Harry Potter, here comes the script of the Cursed Child play. Some of us have been accidentally spoiled, while others have deliberately looked for spoilers from the Internet (I cannot help myself :P), but most of us also agree that we await this book with anxious excitement.

Not that many books in my list this month, but perhaps I’ve missed a couple of your most anticipated books. So let me know which books are your most anticipated July releases!

June Most Anticipated New Releases

This month’s new releases post comes a little bit late into June but here it is!

I only have three books in my June most anticipated releases, but I am open to any recommendation outside these three.

Release Date: June 7 2016

You Know Me Well by Nina LaCour and David Levithan | GOODREADS PAGE

book cover

Stand-alone or series: stand-alone

Category | Genre: Young Adult | Contemporary, Romance

I have a good history with books co-authored by David Levithan (Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist; Will Grayson, Will Grayson) so it comes as no surprise that this one is in my TBR. You Know Me Well is told in alternating POV of two LGBT teens, Kate and Mark. They never spoke despite sitting next to each other in class, but when they stumbled upon one another in the wild, they form friendship bond (that’s what goodreads tell me anyway).

Release Date: June 14 2016

League of Dragons (Temeraire #9) by Naomi Novik | GOODREADS PAGE

book cover

Stand-alone or series: #9 in Temeraire

Category | Genre: Adult | Fantasy, Historical Fiction

It’s no secret that I adored Novik’s Uprooted. Because of this very reason, I recently hauled His Majesty’s Dragon, the first book in Temeraire series. I am only 80 pages in or something, but so far it seems like a fun series I could get on board with. League of Dragons is the 9th book in the series so I still have a long long way to go to get to it. LOL.

Release Date: June 21 2016

White Sand Volume 1 by Brandon Sanderson, Rik Hoskin, Julius M Gopez (Illustrations) | GOODREADS PAGE

book cover

Stand-alone or series: the first volume of a series

Category | Genre: Adult | Fantasy, Graphic Novel

Oh hey, will you look at that! The first graphic novel ever made appearance in my blog. I have to admit I am not much of a graphic novel reader, this is more of a supply problem as most of the time I’m reading ebooks and I found reading graphic novel in mobile phone to be very exhausting because of all the zooming and panning.

BUT, what are the odds I’m going to miss Brandon Sanderson’s work?!  Plus, it’s part of the cosmere. And the magic system sounds interesting too, although I am probably biased. You can see a preview of the first few pages here.

That’s all for now. Let me know, what books are your most anticipated releases for June?

May Most Anticipated New Releases

Are you thinking to read some new releases this month?

If your answer is yes, great! Check out the list I compiled below.

If your answer is no, then hear me out. Ready? The sequel to A Court of Thorns & Roses, a Queen of Hearts origin story, a psychological thriller about a girl who thinks she murdered someone, a historical fiction of 1906 San Fransisco earthquake. Oh and new Rick Riordan’s series guest-starring Percy Jackson. Are you on board now?

Release Date: May 3 2016

A Court of Mist and Fury (#2 in Court of Thorns and Roses) by Sarah J Maas | GOODREADS PAGE

book cover

Stand-alone or series: the second book in a series.

Category | Genre: Young Adult | High Fantasy

Arguably one of the most anticipated book this year, A Court of Mist and Fury is the sequel to the super popular A Court of Thorns and Roses, Sarah J Maas’ more mature fantasy series. By the way, if you cannot get enough of Feyre, Tamlin, or Rhysand (I haven’t read the first book, but I know the name of the main characters – go figure) this book is supposedly 640 pages thick! That’s like 200 pages thicker than the first one. :p

The Crown (#5 in The Selection) by Kiera Cass | GOODREADS PAGE

book cover

Stand-alone or series: the last book in the series

Category | Genre: Young Adult | Romance, Fantasy

The Crown is supposedly the last book in The Selection series. For those who have been following the journey of America and then Eadlyn since the first book, you definitely would want to read the finale.

Queen of Hearts (#1 in Queen of Hearts Saga) by Colleen Oakes | GOODREADS PAGE

book cover

Stand-alone or series: the first book in the series

Category | Genre: Young Adult | Fantasy, Retellings, Fairy Tales

Goodreads told me that this book was originally published in 2014, and if you go to its goodreads page (link above) you could see the reviews to the original publication. I have to say that the reviews for the original one were quite mixed. However, I’m curious to see if this time the book will fare better and besides, I always have soft spot for villains.

The Hidden Oracle (#1 in The Trials of Apollo) by Rick Riordan | GOODREADS PAGE

book cover

Stand-alone or series: the first book in the series

Category | Genre: Middle Grade | Fantasy, Mythology

Oh hey Rick Riordan’s new series featuring Percy Jackson. You know I can’t quit you and I never want to. Here’s hoping Nico DiAngelo will also make an appearance just because he’s my fave.

Release Date: May 17 2016

The Crown’s Game (#1 in The Crown’s Game) by Evelyn Skye | GOODREADS PAGE

crown_game

Stand-alone or series: The first book in a series

Category | Genre: Young Adult | Fantasy, Historical Fiction

The Crown’s Game is Evelyn Skye’s debut novel and if it’s as good as the hype surrounding it, then we’re all in for a treat. It’s a historical fantasy sets in Russia about a magic competition held to win the spot as Imperial Enchanter. Now, magic and historical are usually the magic words to make me pick up a book on its release date, and I’ve got a feeling this book will be no exception. Don’t fail us, hype!

Release Date: May 24 2016

The Last Star (#3 in The 5th Wave) by Rick Yancey | GOODREADS PAGE

book cover

Stand-alone or series: The last book in a series

Category | Genre: Young Adult | Science Fiction, Post Apocalyptic

Finally! The last installment in The 5th Wave series will be here soon. If you’ve been dying to know what other cruel things Yancey will do to his characters (and his readers), then get this book. If you’ve been holding off reading the series for the sake of binge-reading it, get this book. Or, if you’re me and you haven’t read the second book because you plan to spoil yourself on the series’ ending before deciding whether it’s worth it to go through with it or not, then check out this book too.

Outrun the Moon by Stacey Lee | GOODREADS PAGE

outrun

Stand-alone or series: stand-alone

Category | Genre: Young Adult | Historical Fiction

Outrun the moon is a story of a girl trying to break out of poverty in Chinatown by using her wits. She bribes her way into private school, makes friends, and has to fend off spoiled kids. But that’s not all. Outrun the moon is also a historical fiction about the 1906 San Fransisco earthquake so it’s definitely not your usual contemporary fiction.

Please Don’t Tell by Laura Tims | GOODREADS PAGE

please_dt

Stand-alone or series: stand-alone

Category | Genre: Young Adult | Contemporary, Thriller, Psychological

This one is a story about Joy who thinks she killed a boy at a party. When someone blackmail her, Joy has to uncover the blackmailer’s identity. But it’s more than who did what, Please Don’t Tell is a book exploring the complicated relationship between two sisters. Lately, I’ve been in the mood for thrillers so I might get this one soon.

That’s all for now. Let me know, which books are your most anticipated releases for May?

April Most Anticipated New Releases

New month, new books! Find out what will be out in stores this April.

Release Date: April 5 2016

Flamecaster (Shattered Realms #1) by Cinda Williams Chima | GOODREADS PAGE

book cover

Stand-alone or series: the first book in a series.

Category | Genre: Young Adult | High Fantasy

I have yet to read any book from Cinda Williams Chima, but I kept hearing how good they are. This book is set in the Seven Realms world, a generation later so if you’re a fan of this book – or Chima – you might want to get this book.

Tell the Wind and Fire by Sarah Rees Brennan | GOODREADS PAGE

srb

Stand-alone or series: stand-alone

Category | Genre: Young Adult | Urban Fantasy, Retellings

If you’ve been following this blog for some time, you might have realize that one of my favorite book ever is The Demon’s Lexicon by Sarah Rees Brennan. Now, Sarah is back with her retelling of A Tale of Two Cities, sets in alternate New York City. I have actually read this book (surprising got approved for an ARC on netgalley) so stay tuned for my review. Either way, I’m pretty sure this book is worth buying for the gorgeous cover alone.

Release Date: April 12 2016

Lady Renegades (Rebel Belle #3) by Rachel Hawkins | GOODREADS PAGE

book cover

Stand-alone or series: the last book in the series

Category | Genre: Young Adult | Fantasy, Paranormal, Humor

Upon browsing FictFact, I realized that I haven’t read the second book in the Rebel Belle series *facepalm* I think it’s as good time as any to continue reading this series, yes? To be honest, I was quite obsessed with Hawkins’ Hex Hall series, but Rebel Belle didn’t evoke the same kind of obsession. However, if you want a funny, entertaining read of paranormal fantasy sprinkled with romance, you could always depend on Rachel Hawkins.

The Glittering Court (The Glittering Court #1) by Richelle Mead | GOODREADS PAGE

book cover

Stand-alone or series: the first book in The Glittering Court series

Category | Genre: Young Adult | Fantasy, Paranormal, Historical (?)

Richelle Mead is one prolific author, for sure. After releasing a standalone, Soundless, last November, Mead returns to series with The Glittering Court. The summary promises The Selection meets Reign (which I believe is a historical TV series-correct me if I’m wrong). I’m always up for a good historical read, so I might give this book a chance.

Release Date: April 26 2016

The Raven King (#4 in Raven Cycle) by Maggie Stiefvater | GOODREADS PAGE

book cover

Stand-alone or series: The final installment in the Raven Cycle

Category | Genre: Young Adult | Fantasy, Paranormal

Many people have been freaking out about this book. Me? I plan to read the whole series after the fourth book is out so I could binge-read them. I hope this book turns out well for the sake of the fans!

The Rose and the Dagger (The Wrath and the Dawn #2) by Renee Ahdieh | GOODREADS PAGE

book cover

Stand-alone or series: the second book in the series

Category | Genre: Young Adult | Fantasy, Retellings

I now own the first book and I’ll be reading it next month in anticipation of The Rose and the Dagger. I am excited for this book, although I cannot tell you what it is about since I didn’t read the synopsis (avoiding spoilers for the first book). I’m quite sure it’s a continuation of the 1001 nights retelling in the first book, but never mind that, it might be a retelling of Ultraman and I’ll still be reading that.

Are you ready for this book?

March Most Anticipated New Releases

March marks the release of one of my most anticipated 2016 YA, Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare, but if shadowhunters is not for you, check out what other books will be in stores next month.

Release Date: March 1 2016

A Study in Charlotte (Charlotte Holmes #1) by Brittany Cavallaro | GOODREADS PAGE

asic cover

Stand-alone or series: the first book in a series.

Category | Genre: Young Adult | Mystery, Thriller, Retelling (?)

I’ve never watched a full episode of Sherlock Holmes (I know, I know). I did, however, read some of the books and watched the movies, so I expected this version of female Holmes (Charlotte) to be at least as fascinating as her predecessor.

Release Date: March 8 2016

Iron to Iron (Wolf by Wold #0.5) by Ryan Graudin | GOODREADS PAGE

iron cover

Stand-alone or series: part of a series; it’s the prequel novella to Wolf by Wolf.

Category | Genre: Young Adult | Historical Fiction

I must be the only person who haven’t read Wolf by Wolf, but I intended to do so very soon. If, unlike me, you have read it and now have set up a countdown timer to the release of Blood for Blood, this prequel novella is for you!

Lady Midnight (#1 in The Dark Artifices) by Cassandra Clare | GOODREADS PAGE

book cover

Stand-alone or series: the first book in The Dark Artifices series

Category | Genre: Young Adult | Fantasy, Paranormal

Cassie is back with a new shadowhunters series! The Dark Artifices is set a couple of years after the events in The Mortal Instruments with a new ensemble of shadowhunters. If TMI was set in New York’s Institute, TDA took place in the Los Angeles Institute. The main characters, Emma Carstairs and Julian Blackthorn, have been introduced in TMI and then in the Tales from the shadowhunter academy. I still have mixed feelings about the two, but I’ll definitely give this one a try.

Release Date: March 29 2016

The Winner’s Kiss (The Winner’s Trilogy #3) by Marie Rutkoski | GOODREADS PAGE

book cover

Stand-alone or series: The final installment in The Winner’s trilogy

Category | Genre: Young Adult | High Fantasy

Another series I have not read, but the reviews for this series, and especially this book, have been largely positive. As a final book in the very well-accepted series, this book has been building up hype in the last couple of months. To the fans of the series, I hope it meets and exceeds all of your expectation!

Surprisingly, Brandon Sanderson is not releasing any book for March 🙂 My TBR pile breathed a sigh of relief.
But let me know, what books are your most anticipated releases for March?

Stand-alone or series: Collection of short stories from The Lunar Chronicles

Category | Genre: Young Adult | Fantasy, Science Fiction, Fairy Tale

Despite having issues with Red Queen (as mentioned in my review), I am still anticipating the next installment from Aveyard. Hopefully, this book delivers.

Morning Star (Red Rising #3) by Pierce Brown | GOODREADS PAGE

Morning star cover

Stand-alone or series: the last book in Red Rising trilogy

Category | Genre: Adult | Fantasy, Dystopia, Science Fiction

Here’s another series I’m not totally in love with. I have only read the first book, though, and my fellow bloggers convinced me that the second book is even better. So, I’ll continue with this series. But never mind me. There are tons of fans of this trilogy that have been counting the days to the book release. I hope it meets your expectation!

Riders (Riders #1) by Veronica Rossi | GOODREADS PAGE

Category | Genre: Young Adult | Fantasy, Paranormal, Mythology

Rossi, most famous for her series Under the Never Sky, is back with a new series called Riders. It’s about a boy who turned into one of the four horsemen and had to save humanity from an ancient evil but failed. Sounds good?

Calamity (Reckoners #3) by Brandon Sanderson | GOODREADS PAGE

Calamity cover

Stand-alone or series: the last book in the Reckoners series.

Category | Genre: Young Adult | Science Fiction, Urban Fantasy, Alternate Future

And now, for my mandatory Brandon Sanderson mention.
After releasing Bands of Mourning in January, he’s back with another book, this time it’s a YA. Yep, it’s Calamity, the last book in Reckoners series. If you’re not familiar with the name, it’s probably because some of us refer to it as Steelheart series (or maybe I’m the only one who did). I’m not going to read the synopsis because I am not fully caught up with the series, but Firefight is in my immediate TBR (having accidentally purchased it this morning *glares at amazon one-click purchase*) and after that, Calamity!

The Girl from Everywhere (The Girl from Everywhere #1) by Heidi Heilig |  GOODREADS PAGE

Girl from everywhere cover

Stand-alone or series: The first book in the series

Category | Genre: Young Adult | Fantasy, Science Fiction, Time Travel, Historical, Romance

I love me a good historical fiction and still looking for that perfect time-travel book. Also, this book has overwhelmingly positive early reviews on goodreads.

Release Date: February 23rd 2016

A Gathering of Shadows (A Darker Shade of Magic #2) by V.E. Schwab | GOODREADS PAGE

A Gathering of Shadows cover

Stand-alone or series: The second book in A Darker Shade of Magic series

Category | Genre: Adult | Fantasy

You know, I’m going to buy all these books and eat protein bars for lunch.

I mean, A Darker Shade of Magic is an epic awesomeness and now think ADSOM plus pirates plus more Rhy !!! I seriously cannot wait for this book. And those teasers Schwab tweeted to torture us. Plus the six chapters I read. AHHHHH. I’ve pre-ordered a digital copy of this book because I cannot bear the thought of waiting three weeks for BookDepository to deliver it.

Side note: if you haven’t read A Darker Shade of Magic, please get your copy now and join the internet movement #ADSOMreadalong starting on 02/01.

Kill the Boy Band by Goldy Moldavsky | GOODREADS PAGE

book cover

Stand-alone or series: stand-alone

Category | Genre: Young Adult | Contemporary, mystery, humor

The synopsis is quite funny, but the reviews said it’s pretty dark. Also, I am one of those people who grew up listening to and loving boy bands so of course I’m going to read this.

That’s it for this month. Let me know if any of those books is on your most anticipated releases for this month. What other books are in your list?

trth

Stand-alone or series: The first book in The Witchlands series.

Genre: high fantasy

Truthwitch tells the story of Safiya, a Truthwitch, and her Threadsister, Iseult as they fought for their freedom and for their life. I’ve had the opportunity to read an extended excerpt for Truthwitch, and it only makes me more excited to read this book. Truthwitch is also one of the most hyped YA book release in the first half of 2016.

Passenger (Passenger #1) by Alexandra Bracken | GOODREADS PAGE

passger

Stand-alone or series: the first book in a series

Genre: science fiction, time travel, romance, historical(-ish)

Passenger, the first book in a new series by Alexandra Bracken, is essentially a time travel story mixed with romance. Etta, the protagonist, found herself inheriting an ability to time travel after a devastating night that cost her everything she loves. She was thrusted back in time where a family called the Ironwoods tried to capture her because they believe she could help them find a stolen object. Etta met Nicholas who assisted her in her adventure.
I am yet to find a YA book  about time traveling that I like. Maybe this will be the one?

Release Date: January 6th 2016

Steel Scars (Red Queen #0.2) and Cruel Crown (Red Queen #0.1 – 0.2) by Victoria Aveyard | GOODREADS PAGE 01 | GOODREADS PAGE 02

Release Date: January 19th 2016

Sanctuary Bay by Laura J. Burns and Melinda Metz | GOODREADS PAGE

sanc

Stand-alone or series: so far, it’s a stand-alone, but there’s a possibility of continuation.

Genre: thriller

Sarah has been accepted into the most elite prep school, but when her roommate went missing, she has to investigate the mystery behind the school.
The premise sounds okay, if not original, but the early reviews are quite positive. I am in the mood for some YA thriller, or any kind of thrillers actually. I hope this book delivers.

Release Date: January 26th 2016

The Bands of Mourning (Mistborn #6) by Brandon Sanderson | GOODREADS PAGE

mourn

Stand-alone or series: The sixth book in the Mistborn series. It’s also the third book in the second Mistborn tetralogy (?). You see, Mistborn are a series of series, the first series starts with The Final Empire and the second one starts with The Alloy of Law. THIS is the third book of that second series. There’ll be another book after The Bands of Mourning titled The Lost Metal.

Genre: high fantasy, (somewhat) steampunk

Just when you thought I could get through a post without mentioning Brandon Sanderson. NOPE.
In my defense, this one was not on me, it was on Tor. After all, I didn’t pick release date for this book. More importantly, I cannot possibly summarize this book for you because I (embarrassingly) haven’t read the second mistborn trilogy *collective gasps*. Not that I need to summarize it, right? Sandersonites, you already know what to expect. Everyone else, please go and read Mistborn: The Final Empire.

That’s it for this month. Let me know if any of those books is on your most anticipated releases for this month. What other books are in your list?

ETA: The original post mentioned that The Bands of Mourning is the last book in the second Mistborn trilogy. This is in fact incorrect. I have corrected the related paragraph above. Let me know if you find another inaccuracy.

December New Releases

Welcome to my monthly upcoming new releases post. Today I’m bringing you my most anticipated YA releases for the month of December. There aren’t many books in my most anticipated releases, four to be exact. Please note that some of these books are sequel or part of a series as indicated in the “stand-alone or series” box.

Release Date: December 1st 2015

Their Fractured Light (Starbound #3) by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner | GOODREADS PAGE

lght

Stand-alone or series: part of a series, it’s the third book in Starbound. Each book in Starbound trilogy told the story of a different couple, but they’re all interconnected somehow. From what I gather, it is possible to read the second book first (i.e., you’ll have no problems understanding the story), but you might see spoiler from the first book, etc. Therefore, the suggestion is to read the first two books before this one.

Genre: sci-fi, romance

Starbound is a 3-book series about three star-crossed lovers battling the same enemy, LaRoux Industries. It was star-crossed (planet-crossed?) in the literal sense, meaning the stories from each book took place in different planet about two people from different world. If sci-fi romance is something that interest you, you might want to give the trilogy a chance.

Nexis (Trickster #1) by A.L. Davroe | GOODREADS PAGE

nxs

Stand-alone or series: the first book in a new series. You can start this one … umm RIGHT NOW. It’s out in the wild already.

Genre: science-fiction, dystopia (?)

Nexis, the first book in Trickster series, is about Ella, a girl who–after an accident–lost her father and her legs. She immersed herself in a virtual reality game called Nexis as a way to cope with her life.

The summary reminded me of Ready Player One by Ernest Cline, which I read recently and thoroughly enjoy. The concept of blending virtual reality and real world dystopia into one book is one that interests me. I hope it’s as good as the premise.

Release Date: December 15th 2015

Frozen Tides (Falling Kingdoms #4) by Morgan Rhodes | GOODREADS PAGE

frz

Stand-alone or series: The 4th book in Falling Kingdoms series. Highly recommend to read #1 – #3 first if you want to read this one.

Genre: high fantasy

I have just begun this popular series last month and the 4th book is going to be released in 2 weeks. I didn’t read the summary because I don’t wanna be spoiled, but click on the link above to be taken to the goodreads page.

UnBound by Neal Shusterman | GOODREADS PAGE

unbnd

Stand-alone or series: technically it’s more of companion book of Unwind Dystology, but judging from the synopsis, it’s LIKELY to contain MAJOR SPOILERS of all four books in original dystology. I would suggest to read UnWind, UnWholly, UnSouled, and UnDivided first (UnStrung—the novella telling the story of Lev—is optional).

Genre: dystopia, utopia, fantasy, science-fiction

UnBound is a collection of short stories that take place after UnDivided. Find out what happen to the main characters after the conclusion of Unwind Dystology.
(PS. If you haven’t read Unwind, please do yourself a favor and get it/borrow it now)
