Cassie is back with a new shadowhunters series! The Dark Artifices is set a couple of years after the events in The Mortal Instruments with a new ensemble of shadowhunters. If TMI was set in New York’s Institute, TDA took place in the Los Angeles Institute. The main characters, Emma Carstairs and Julian Blackthorn, have been introduced in TMI and then in the Tales from the shadowhunter academy. I still have mixed feelings about the two, but I’ll definitely give this one a try.

Another series I have not read, but the reviews for this series, and especially this book, have been largely positive. As a final book in the very well-accepted series, this book has been building up hype in the last couple of months. To the fans of the series, I hope it meets and exceeds all of your expectation!

Surprisingly, Brandon Sanderson is not releasing any book for March 🙂 My TBR pile breathed a sigh of relief.

Hello, here goes another quick round-up. Today, I’d like to share an excerpt from Cassandra Clare’s Lady Midnight and a movie trailer adapted from a certain book.

Lady Midnight Excerpt

If you’re like me and cannot wait for Lady Midnight, the first book in The Dark Artifices series, here’s something to whet your appetite. A wild excerpt has appeared! (that is not a pokemon reference) Yep, this is a different excerpt from the one added at the end of each ebook in Tales from The Shadowhunter Academy. You can read the excerpt here.

Please be aware that this excerpt is not a filler-ish one, but it contains spoiler to a key plot details in the book. If you have read the summary, you’d have known already and you’ll be safe to proceed. However, if you do not want to be spoiled at all, do avoid reading the summary AND the excerpt.

A Monster Calls teaser trailer

Here’s something for Patrick Ness’ fans. The teaser trailer for A Monster Calls has been put online and I think it looks gorgeous. I know, maybe gorgeous is not the right word, but that’s how I feel when I watched the short clip.

I am very excited for this one although, confession time, I haven’t read A Monster Calls. Before you guys calling for my head, let me explain that the only reason why I haven’t read it is because I cannot find a single copy of this book anywhere in my city. I do really want to read this, but after I watch the trailer I’m considering watching the movie first just to have a different perspective. The movie is directed by JA Bayona, who has great credential with The Impossible (that movie about tsunami starring Naomi Watts, Ewan McGregor, and Tom Holland-yes, that spiderman Tom Holland) and the creepy-tically acclaimed The Orphanage. It also has great cast. I mean, Felicity Jones, Liam Neeson, Sigourney Weaver, Toby Kebbell! What more could you want? Lewis Macdougall gets the leading role as Connor and from what I see in the teaser, I’m hopeful that he’s going to do a good job. He also starred in Pan, but I didn’t watch that one so I cannot judge.

Goodreads Choice Awards – It’s the final round!

Last thing before I’m ending this post. Goodreads Choice Awards is on the final round and I never feel so conflicted! Are you asking me to choose between Rainbow Rowell, Brandon Sanderson, Leigh Bardugo, and Sarah J Maas? Like, what even!?
However, if you brave people have made up your mind, head to the awards page and vote for your pick. Voting ends on November 23 so make sure to vote before then.

By the way, I am also using the goodreads choice awards to add books to my TBR. There are some books I’m not familiar with that got into the final round so of course I’m adding them to my TBR. Is anyone doing the same thing?

Hello people! I hope you’re all well.
This week, I found out about some book news/updates that I’m excited about and I just have to post them here! I also got some news regarding my blog so stay tuned for that too.

Book News & Updates

First of all, The Stormlight Archive update. It’s not exactly news, but an excerpt has appeared in the wild. During his Shadows of Self tour, Brandon Sanderson has graciously read a part of an ongoing Dalinar chapter in Book #3 of The Stormlight Archive. It offered us a view of younger, more bolsterous Dalinar, hungered for the Thrill, and very very good at battle. Read it or hear Brandon read it to you here. Anyhow, Book #3-currently titled “Oathbringer”-should be released some time in 2016 even though I need to read it now.

Another thing I’ve learned about this week was “A Gathering of Shadows” Fanart Contest. You can send in fanart in form of painting, drawing, sculpture, or even cosplaying. What’s the prize you ask? Why, it’s only a SIGNED ARC of A Gathering of Shadows, among other wonderful things. Unfortunately for me, it’s only open to US and Canada residents (not like I’m going to win anyway). Learn more about the contest here. A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab will be out on February 23, 2016.

Speaking of wonderful things, the lovely Cassie Clare has announced that the first book in The Dark Artifices, Lady Midnight, will have special first edition. These first edition books will have stamped rune on the first page and an exclusive short story about the characters from TMI and TFTSA. Lady Midnight’s release date is currently set for March 8, 2016.

Blog Updates

Because of I am so excited for A Gathering of Shadows, I have decided to re-read A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab. It is one of my favorite books in 2015 and since I never gave it proper review, I will instead do a weekly re-read post on my blog. I am thinking to do it by part and there are 14 parts in ADSOM which means I will have finished it on the first week of February (just in time for the second book!). I am going to post a short summary and a short (or long) commentary rambling about each part starting next week.

You are very welcome if you want to join me reading A Darker Shade of Magic. I promise not to post spoiler for future chapters so you can join in even if it’s your first time reading the book.

Most Anticipated October Releases

The month of October is upon us! Okay, it’s still 16 days to go, but I’m buzzing with excitement over the possibility of new releases (books) next month.

Here are some of my most anticipated books to be released in October 2015.

October 6

I’m kicking this off with a BIG release day. Not only that Magnus Chase and the Sword of Summer (the first book in the new Rick Riordan series) will be released on that day, it’s also the day when Ms. Rainbow Amazing-is-My-Middle-Name Rowell is going to drop her new book, Carry On. Two RRs (that four Rs) in one day, I think I might faint from over-excitement and exclamation points!!!

Let’s talk about them.
Rick Riordan has been one of the most consistent MG/YA author I ever read. His Percy Jackson is on my top 5 series of all time, and I also enjoy The Kane Chronicles and The Heroes of Olympus. He is one of the few authors whose companion books I still buy (PJ & The Greek Heroes, PJ & The Greek Gods, etc).

Rainbow Rowell, man, I would run of adjective to describe this lady so I wouldn’t even start. Her writing is so SO GOOD. Now, Fangirl wasn’t my favorite of hers, but I still heart it so I’m more than willing to give Carry On, which was a Fangirl spinoff, a try. See, the other thing I love about Rainbow is that she’s a badass. She was famous for writing realistic YA, but then she went ahead and published not only an adult fiction, but one with magicked telephone in it.
